Anime, traveling, reading, trading card games, board games, video games, hiking What do you love most about Chicago? The food, the beach, and the big city perks while still being affordable and accessible. Furthermore, its ties to Northwestern University provide unique opportunities in public health through the global health institutes. Why did you choose Lurie? I picked Lurie because it is a large children’s hospital with extensive clinical, translational, and basic science research opportunities for its trainees. What are your clinical interests? How did you become interested in this area? Tick-borne illnesses, hemorrhagic fevers, fungal infections What are your research interests Vaccine development, bacteriophage therapy, public health/epidemiology What drew you to this field Challenging diagnostic problems, the ability to do work that benefits entire populations (in addition to individual patients), and the latitude of the field (from clinical work to public health careers to fascinating research opportunities such as with vaccine development, bacteriophage therapy, etc…) Our patients are appreciative and are interested in understanding why their child is ill and what we can do to help them, which makes those day-to-day interactions more fulfilling! The patients have interesting pathology, and you can really see the tangible difference you are making in many of their lives. When I am stuck inside because of global pandemics, I love board games and play online with friends from college, residency and elementary school! What advice would you give a resident thinking of going into peds ID? I think if you love to discuss, deliberate, and learn, then you're going to love working in ID. I'm also a very active person who likes to hike and run in the area. What do you do for fun and to relax? I love to cook and bake. I think that the two fields overlap significantly as an intervention only works if people buy into it, and they only buy in if they understand why it is being done. What are your research interests? My two interests are in antimicrobial stewardship and trainee education. I also like the talking and reading that goes into each patient interaction because it always keeps me learning. ![]() What drew you to the field? I went into ID because I love figuring out what is wrong and actually being able to prescribe a treatment that will make the patient better.
